We are presenting this modified 66 GTO. One of the previous owners decided to make a few changes to the car. It now has a YH code V-8. The date code is J188 coding out to be a 428 block built Oct, 18th of 1968. The car would have had a Turbo 400 tranny, but now has a 4 speed. Everyone has their own preference with the GTO. Some guys like the 64 and 65s and others the 66 and 67s. The first 2 years, the GTO was an option package for the LeMans and Tempest. In 1966 the GTO became an actual model designated by 242 being the first three numbers of the VIN.
This is a real GTO, but does not have it's original engine. According to the VIN# it is a 2 door sport coupe. Some refer to it as a sedan because of the post between the windows. The YH code on the front of the block along with the date code, show this to be the 428. I know it's hard to see, but the date code is J188. This is a 428 block from October 18th, 1968. This proves the engine was not the original.
There is no sign of rust under the doors. The current owner has no documentation. We are all assuming that the mileage is actual since the new engine was installed. That is just an assumption. The Vintage Air works very well. The trunk has been upholstered, but the trunk is solid and rust free. There is a car cover that comes with the car. There is a crack in each muffler. There is now a 4 speed Muncie. The original transmission was the Turbo 400 according to the engine decode. You can see the undercarriage is rust free. The car overall is really solid. Other than the few paint flaws, this is a great running driving GTO. The undercarriage just needs a good detailing.
The following photos show the flaws in the paint. There are some scratches, a few chips and an area where someone has buffed through the paint. There are also surface scratches all around the car. This photo just shows the surface scratches. That little mark in the center is a reflection.
