We are proud to showcase this restored 1969 Camaro Pace Car. This is one the 15,573 convertibles, one of only 3,675 Z-11s, one of the 550 Big Blocks, one of 109 convertible big blocks with 396/350hp cars, and one of only 79 convertible, big block, 396/350hp with factory A/C!!
It is now common knowledge that in 1969, the Chevrolet Camaro was chosen as the Indianapolis 500 pace car. The actual pace car and it's back up car were L89 Aluminum block 396 cars with 375hp RS/SS. The replica cars were were also RS/SS convertibles with white tops ordered under the RPO Z11. The original plan at GM was to build 6400 replicas to send to every Chevy dealer in America. Only 3675 were actually produced.
The Camaro was restored over a period of about 3 years and just recently finished. Many of the parts on the car are original. If not original, date correct. The engine compartment was restored to it's original condition and all factory correct, date correct, parts were used. During the body off restoration, the engine was also rebuilt in 2016.
Factory console gauges are working. The original factory clock actually works.
The interior looks great in the Camaro. The color combination in the pace cars was really attractive in 69.
Portions of the interior are original, such as the above parts of the dash. The original AM radio works. The original vibration dampening "Cocktail Shakers" are still in place. All parts used in the restoration were date code correct, including the hard to find radiator.
